The Oscar Wilde Bookshop

Gay activist Craig Rodwell founded the Oscar Wilde Bookshop in 1967, the first Gay and Lesbian bookstore to carry LGBT literature.

The store moved in 1973 to Christopher Street where all enjoyed its intimate interior in Greenwich Village

Unfortunately the OWB closed its doors in 2009. Thanks to all who were a part of the OWB family over the years.
We invite you to visit our friends in the community for your LGBT book needs.

This comic by Glen Hanson and Allan Neuwirth was originally penned as an homage to the OWB when it was to close in  early 2003.  In the original artwork the artists had referenced Oscar Wilde, but before it went to press they had to erase the name and replace it with "Pink Triangle" because the store had been saved.  Many thanks to Hanson and Neuwirth for their kind permission to post the comic here.
